Often, people who hate are not aware of the consequences of their actions, believing that they are only expressing their opinion. The problem arises when the employer finds out about the hate speech and implements proceedings aimed at punishing the employee. Many people defend themselves with arguments that are rarely true at such moments. Hate speech not only adversely affects the employee's image, but also the employer branding, i.e. the image created by the company employing the person. Of course not! Unless our current job does not give us satisfaction and we do not have the courage to resign. However, in the era of rapid information flow, finding another job can be very time-consuming. An employee who speaks hatefully about others does not have the best opinion among employers. Often, finding another job, in this case, ends with moving to another city or even country. Although there is still no certainty that in the new place of work or residence this person will be anonymous. What is more, the negative effects of hate can manifest themselves not only in the work environment, but also in interpersonal relations. We must be aware that each person is different, and therefore professes different values and may have completely different opinions on various topics. In such cases, differences can have negative effects, such as tense relationships or tensions at work. This can then translate into efficiency and productivity at work, but also the atmosphere in the workplace.
What other consequences can an employee face for engaging in hate speech?
In addition to losing their job, the employee is also at risk of a lawsuit, if it is decided against the hater, the victim may demand compensation in the form of a public apology, a specific amount of money for themselves or for a selected charity or social organization. If as a result of hate the injured party has suffered damage, e.g. an important business partner has withdrawn from cooperation, they may demand compensation.
How can the effects of hate affect an employer's image?
A company that is just beginning its image creation, the so-called Employer Branding, may suffer significant losses due to a hater among employees. These losses may be felt especially in the company's revenues and opinions circulating among customers. Often, returning to the previous state of affairs may be time-consuming and require many sacrifices on the part of the employer to regain the trust of customers. Unfortunately, regaining the trust of customers is not that easy, especially when the offended group was the company's target group. Faced with such behavior, customers may identify the views of the hater with the brand's image, as a result of which they often receive contradictory messages. A company that presents itself as tolerant, having a person among its employees who is intolerant of others, loses credibility among potential or current customers. Therefore, it is worth reacting immediately after receiving the message about the situation and having a conversation with the employee. If the case has gained wide publicity, it is necessary to inform as soon as possible about the steps taken against the employee. It is up to the employer whether to give the employee another chance or fire him.

What is more, when we are not working, we are still representatives of the company we work for, so sometimes it is better to remain silent than to speak hatefully about others.
